Hello all! Let me start off by saying this is a wonderful class, it opens your eyes to so many opinions and views of being a teacher. You will learn about different types of schools, different types of students, and how to open your opinion to all you will meet. This class taught me how to teach students about other ways of life and that it is ok to be different, without stepping over any boundaries. The biggest hurdle I believe we talked about in class, was how to talk about the issues no one ever wants to talk about. I learned you do not have to bring up conversations to talk about the issues of race, power, or privilege but you do need to discuss them when they come up. Children will repeat the bad behavior of the generation above them if they are not taught how to treat others. It is our job as teachers to improve the lives and opportunities of EVERY student that comes into out classroom. Every child should be treated the same and introduced to the world around them. This class was a great opportunity for me, I have learned how to have unwanted conversations and to treat all children the same in a class.
